Heritage Day 2024

The 23rd edition of Heritage Day will take place on Sunday 21 April. Together with 650 other heritage organisations, libraries, local history circles and museums in Flanders and Brussels, this year we will delve into the theme "Home": what makes a house a home? Which objects, traditions or people make someone feel at home? How do you fill in the concept of "home"?

Together with the Letterenhuis, we delved into our collection of old (and not so old) magazines, from 1901 to yesterday. Family magazines sum up the domestic atmosphere of days gone by like no other and offer a unique opportunity to study the past. The illustrations and photos, the use of language, the different sections and sometimes funny advertising make you feel as if you are in the 20s, 50s or 80s. We exhibit these gems in the Nottebohm Room.

Afterwards, slide your feet under the activity table in the Eekhoud Cabinet. With a cup of tea or coffee, a tasty biscuit and, above all, lots of fun, young and old can have fun here with colouring pictures, quizzes, comics and games we got from our magazines. As icing on the cake, with the help of a professional, you can get creative with some retro craft patterns. We will provide all the materials, all you need to bring is a lot of gusto!
