A bird’s eye view of Antwerp

Every district of Antwerp consists of a wonderful mix of historical buildings and modern architecture. To see all of this beauty you actually would need wings. But fortunately there are several places, both high up in the air and on the ground, to see as much as possible of the city.

In the centre

The symbol of Antwerp undoubtedly is the Cathedral of Our Lady which you can find in the historic centre of the city. Currently you cannot visit the top of spire because of the renovation works but it is scheduled to reopen soon. The cathedral spire is a dizzying 123 metres high so you can really see the whole of the city. We are really looking forward to the reopening!

In the north

There are various viewpoints in Antwerp which are free. In MAS visitors can take a look at the city from the museum’s roof without having to visit the museum. The 62-metre high building offers a stunning panoramic view of the city centre, the Eilandje district and the port.

If you walk further north you can also walk up the tower of the Red Star Line Museum for free. This tower, which is shaped like a ship's funnel looks fascinating but the view from above is equally exciting.

Finally you can also visit Noordkasteel on the edge of the port. In this surprisingly green area you can relax and unwind, unless there is a youth festival in progress. You are close to the water and can enjoy a view of both banks of the River Scheldt.

From the other side of the river

If you are looking for a reason to walk through the St. Anna Tunnel then the magnificent view of the city’s skyline from the Left Bank is the perfect excuse. Galgenweel is a popular quiet getaway for the people of the city.

You can also relax in Boeienweide (a field full of buoys) near the pedestrian tunnel. Enjoy Antwerp’s beautiful skyline while your children play in the playground.
